MIA Photo Fair Milan 2026: Todd Hido: Atmospheric
Booth B 007
We are delighted to present Atmospheric, a solo exhibition by acclaimed American photographer Todd Hido, opening in conjunction with MIA Photo Fair 2026 at Superstudio Più in Milan, before traveling to our gallery in Andorra.
The artist will be present throughout the fair, offering visitors a unique opportunity to engage with his work and creative process in person. He will also be signing copies of his latest book at our booth (B 007) on Friday, 20 March, at 6 PM.
Spanning more than three decades, Atmospheric brings together Hido’s iconic nocturnal suburbs, charged interiors, and weather-swept landscapes—images that define his cinematic vision. A leading figure in contemporary photography, Hido transforms ordinary houses, roads, and peripheral spaces into emotionally charged tableaux that blur the line between reality and fiction.
Influenced by cinema and painting—from Alfred Hitchcock and David Lynch to Edward Hopper—he often photographs through car windshields in rain or fog, using light, color, and atmosphere to evoke narratives that remain tantalizingly unresolved.
His evocative imagery has become a key reference for contemporary visual culture, shaping the look and mood of celebrated film and television works that explore darkness, desire, and psychological tension, including Euphoria and True Detective: Night Country.
Hido’s photographs are held in major museum collections worldwide, including the Guggenheim Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Getty Center, and Fotomuseum Winterthur.
A prolific photobook artist, Hido has published more than seventeen titles, among them the landmark trilogy House Hunting (2001), Outskirts (2002), and Roaming (2004), as well as Between the Two (2006), Bright Black World (2018), and The End Sends Advance Warning (2024).
His survey volume Intimate Distance (2016) was followed in 2025 by a substantially expanded edition, Intimate Distance: Over Thirty Years of Photographs, A Chronological Album, extending the reach of his practice into new geographies and environmental narratives.
For those interested in attending the fair in Milan, we are pleased to offer a limited number of invitations, available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Todd Hido will also participate in a public talk on Thursday, 19 March at 7 PM with Darius Himes, International Head of Photographs at Christie's, discussing "In the Vicinity of Narrative: A conversation on Photography, Editing, Sequencing and the Mystery of Photobooks."
